TikTok Pinned Comment Engagement Impact Statistics 2026
Posts that include a question earned 26.19% more comments on TikTok, based on Metricool’s 2026 TikTok Study of 2,314,756 posts from January and February 2026. No equivalent figure exists for pinned comments. This post covers what the 2026 datasets from Buffer, Socialinsider, Metricool and Dash Social actually measure about TikTok comment sections, and which pinned-comment numbers circulating this year trace back to nothing.
TikTok Pinned Comment Engagement Impact
Does A TikTok Pinned Comment Change Engagement?
No published study isolates it. The closest measurement is Buffer’s analysis of what happens when an account replies to comments on its own posts.
Buffer data scientist Julian Winternheimer ran fixed-effects regression across nearly 2 million posts from more than 220,000 accounts, comparing each account against its own history rather than against other accounts. The six platforms with reply data were Threads, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X and Bluesky.
TikTok is absent. Any TikTok-specific reply or pin lift figure quoted alongside these numbers did not come from this dataset.
| Platform | Engagement lift vs baseline | Posts analyzed |
|---|---|---|
| Threads | +42% | 128,000 |
| +30% | 72,000 | |
| +21% | More than 700,000 | |
| +9% | More than 1 million | |
| X | +8% | About 30,000 |
| Bluesky | +5% | 73,000 |
| TikTok | Not included | Not included |

Buffer states the causal arrow could run either way, since strong posts attract more comments and therefore more chances to reply. The X result was only marginally significant at p of roughly 0.097, drawn from about 2,100 posts with replied-to comments.
Share of accounts that improved when replying
Buffer also reported how many profiles beat their own baseline. LinkedIn led at 83%, Instagram reached 63%, Facebook 54% and X 51%. Threads sat at about two-thirds of profiles.
How Many Comments Does A TikTok Video Get?
Socialinsider’s 2026 social media benchmarks put the average at 50 comments per TikTok post in 2025, down from 66 in 2024. That is a 24% drop, the steepest of the four platforms it tracks.
| Platform | Avg comments per post, 2024 | Avg comments per post, 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 66 | 50 |
| 24 | 20 | |
| 17 | 22 | |
| X | 1 | 1 |

Socialinsider’s separate TikTok report points the other way. Across 2 million videos from 214,507 profiles, average comments rose in every account tier between 2024 and 2025, up about 3% overall and 11% for accounts above 100,000 followers.
Same publisher, same date window, opposite direction. The cross-platform study samples brand accounts; the TikTok study samples profiles from 1,000 to 1 million followers. Read both before building a case around either.
| Account size | Comments 2024 | Comments 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| 1K to 5K | 7 | 8 |
| 5K to 10K | 10 | 15 |
| 10K to 50K | 23 | 25 |
| 50K to 100K | 37 | 40 |
| 100K to 1M | 90 | 100 |

Who Actually Sees A TikTok Pinned Comment?
Mostly strangers. Metricool found the For You page drove 72.70% of TikTok video views, a share that barely moved from the previous year.
That reframes the job a pin does. Most people opening a comment section arrived through algorithmic distribution, not through following the account, so a pin reads as context for a first-time viewer rather than a note to a community.
Per-post performance fell sharply over the same window. Metricool recorded 72.10% more videos published year over year, with views, reach and interactions all down by roughly a third.
Reach concentrates early. Metricool found TikTok posts collect 96% of their total reach and nearly 98% of their interactions within the first 10 days, which is the window any creator analytics review should cover.
What Raises TikTok Comment Counts?
Metricool’s study measured one comment-section intervention directly. Posts that included a question received 26.19% more comments than posts without one.
That is the nearest verified proxy for the effect creators attribute to a pinned prompt, and it belongs to the caption and the video, not the pin. Related work on caption length and engagement points the same direction.
Format matters more than any comment tactic in the same dataset. Video generated 5 times the reach and 6 times the interactions of images and carousels, and posts carrying at least one hashtag picked up nearly 5% more views and over 9% more interactions.
Posting volume shows a measurable relationship too. Dash Social reported brands publishing at a record eight posts per week, while those posting fewer than six times weekly saw 93% higher engagement, a pattern that also shows up in data on posting frequency and growth.
TikTok Pinned Comment Claims That Fail Verification
Four claims recur across 2026 articles on this topic. None resolve to a primary dataset.
| Circulating claim | Verification status |
|---|---|
| Creators can pin up to three comments per video | Unsupported; 2026 guides from NapoleonCat and FeedGuardians describe one pin per video, mobile only |
| A TikTok-specific comment reply lift percentage | Buffer’s six-platform study excludes TikTok |
| Pinned comments lift watch time or comment velocity | No published dataset isolates pinned comments |
| Pinned comments carry algorithmic ranking weight | No source publishes a measurement |

The recycling is what makes the topic feel documented. A handful of unsourced figures repeated often enough start reading as consensus, so trace any feature-level number back to its primary release first, whether the subject is pins, duets and stitches, or comment replies.
TikTok Pinned Comment Strategy Needs Engagement Context
Socialinsider recorded TikTok’s engagement rate by views at 3.85% in Q2 2026, an 8% decline from the quarter before. The metric had held between 4.20% and 4.30% for five consecutive quarters from Q1 2025 through Q1 2026.
Dash Social measured 3.4% by video views in its April 2026 benchmarks, down from 3.9%, still the highest of the platforms it covers.
Smaller accounts hold the advantage. Socialinsider’s tier data shows profiles with 1,000 to 5,000 followers at 4.40% engagement by views in 2025, against 3.75% for the 50,000 to 100,000 tier.
| Account size | Engagement rate by views, 2024 | Engagement rate by views, 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| 1K to 5K | 4.20% | 4.40% |
| 5K to 10K | 3.85% | 4.00% |
| 10K to 50K | 3.80% | 3.90% |
| 50K to 100K | 3.75% | 3.75% |
| 100K to 1M | 3.95% | 3.95% |

Three statements survive scrutiny. Comment volume per TikTok post fell 24% in the cross-platform sample while rising 3% in the TikTok-only sample. The only rigorous reply-lift study covers six platforms and leaves TikTok out. And the pin itself has no measured effect anywhere in the 2026 literature, which is worth knowing before it anchors a plan for getting more views or growing a following.
FAQs
Does pinning a comment on TikTok increase engagement?
No published dataset measures it. Buffer’s 2026 study of nearly 2 million posts covered reply lift on Threads, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X and Bluesky, and excluded TikTok entirely.
Can Reddit threads confirm a TikTok pinned comment engagement lift?
No. Reddit discussions repeat percentages that trace to no primary dataset. The only rigorous comment-reply research, Buffer’s November 2025 analysis, does not include TikTok among its six platforms.
How many comments can a creator pin on one TikTok video?
2026 guides from NapoleonCat and FeedGuardians describe one pinned comment per video, available in the mobile app only. Pinning a new comment unpins the previous one.
What does raise comment counts on TikTok?
Metricool found posts including a question received 26.19% more comments across 2,314,756 posts analyzed in January and February 2026 against the same months in 2025.
How many TikTok comments does an average post get?
Socialinsider recorded 50 comments per post in 2025, down from 66 in 2024. Its separate TikTok study of 214,507 profiles found comments rising about 3% over the same period.
