TikTok Live Viewer Retention Rate Statistics 2026

What Does TikTok Live Viewer Retention Rate Actually Measure?

There is no published retention benchmark for TikTok LIVE. TikTok reports retention only at the account level, inside TikTok Studio, over a rolling 28-day window.

Four of those metrics carry the retention signal: unique viewers, average watch duration, peak concurrent viewers, and average concurrent viewers. Each answers a different question, and they are not interchangeable.

TikTok Studio LIVE metricWhat it counts
Unique viewersIndividual people who watched, counted once regardless of how often they joined or how long they stayed
Average watch durationHow long viewers stayed in the LIVE room
Peak concurrent viewersThe highest number of viewers watching at one time
Average concurrent viewersThe average number watching at the same time across the whole session
Watch GPMGross merchandise value generated per 1,000 LIVE views

A creator comparing their own numbers to a headline “retention rate” is comparing to something no source publishes. The comparable figures are their own, session over session. Session-length behaviour on the wider app is covered separately in our breakdown of watch time per TikTok user.

TikTok Live Viewer Retention Rate By Category

Category sets the ceiling before a stream starts. In May 2026, Chats drew more than twice the peak viewership of Fashion, the second-placed category.

TikTok LIVE categoryPeak viewers, May 2026
Chats3,358,135
Fashion1,328,683
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang860,517

The ranking held through Q4 2025, when Streams Charts placed Chats first by a wide margin, Fashion second, then Outdoors and Talent. All four non-gaming categories generated more viewership than any single game that quarter, though the gap narrowed.

Gaming stayed under 15% of total TikTok viewership in Q4 2025, the lowest gaming share among the top livestreaming services. Roblox led TikTok’s games that quarter; by May 2026 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was the top title. Category economics differ too, as our data on live shopping conversion shows.

TikTok Live Watch Time Through Q2 2026

Watch hours are concurrent viewers multiplied by how long they stay, which makes quarterly Hours Watched the closest thing to a platform-level retention read.

TikTok LIVE cleared 10 billion Hours Watched for the first time in Q4 2025, growing 8.5% quarter over quarter. It then fell more than 11% in Q1 2026. Streams Charts noted that the drop may be partly linked to the transition of TikTok’s U.S. segment under domestic jurisdiction, and stopped short of calling it the cause.

QuarterTikTok LIVE resultChange vs previous quarter
Q4 2025Above 10 billion Hours Watched+8.5%
Q1 2026Decline in Hours WatchedOver 11% lower
Q2 20268.9 billion Hours WatchedWithin a 1% range

Q2 2026 was the biggest quarter livestreaming has recorded, at 31.43 billion Hours Watched across every platform Streams Charts tracks, 8% above Q1. TikTok LIVE did not participate in that growth. YouTube did, adding 14.8% to reach more than 15.5 billion hours and 49.5% of the tracked total.

Peak viewership moved with the same curve. TikTok LIVE topped 7.2 million concurrent viewers in Q4 2025, up 3.2% on Q3, and set its all-time high the following January.

Across full-year 2025, TikTok LIVE accounted for close to 30% of total livestreaming Hours Watched outside mainland China, second to YouTube’s 47%-plus. Twitch took over 15% and finished roughly 10% below its 2024 total.

Esports viewership shifted in TikTok’s favour despite the flat quarter. By Q2 2026, TikTok LIVE had passed YouTube as the top platform for MPL Philippines, the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang league.

Peak Concurrent Viewers By Month, 2026

Monthly peaks tell a flatter story than the January record suggests. TikTok LIVE reached 7,160,191 concurrent viewers in March 2026, then settled near 6.1 million in both April and May.

How TikTok Live Viewer Retention Rate Feeds Creator Earnings

Gifting and live commerce both scale with time spent in the room, which is why retention matters more to a LIVE creator than to a short-form poster. TikTok’s own numbers come from a creator event at its New York headquarters on 24 April 2025, reported by Digiday.

MetricFigure stated by TikTok, April 2025
Collective daily creator revenue from livestreaming$10 million
LIVE creator revenue, prior 30 days$63 million
Share of that revenue from creators under 50,000 followers80.4%
Creators going live dailyOver 400,000
Users watching TikTok livestreams dailyOver 30 million

Small accounts took the overwhelming share. That skew is what makes per-session retention, rather than follower count, the number worth tracking, and it lines up with the patterns in our analysis of gift conversion by viewer.

Concurrent viewership by category is covered in more depth in our TikTok Live average concurrent viewers report. For creators weighing LIVE against feed content, the per-view earnings figures under the Creator Rewards Program and the effect of posting cadence on reach give the other side of the trade.
