How Many TikTok Sessions Per Day Per User Are There?

Similarweb App Intelligence counts sessions on Android handsets. In August 2025 the typical TikTok user opened the app 10 times a day, the third-highest count among the top social apps it tracks.

WhatsApp led the ranking at more than 20 opens a day. YouTube came in at 5.9, a little over half TikTok’s rate.

Three separate TikTok figures from the same panel and month line up against each other. Ten sessions of 9 minutes 42 seconds accounts for the 1 hour 37 minutes of daily app time Similarweb recorded for August 2025.

How Long Is Each TikTok Session?

TikTok ranks second on session length among these apps, not first. YouTube runs longest at 14 minutes 29 seconds, roughly 50 percent above TikTok’s 9 minutes 42 seconds.

Instagram sits last in the group at 5 minutes 56 seconds while ranking second on session count. Length and frequency move in opposite directions across the set, which is worth holding in mind alongside TikTok video completion rates when judging how much of a clip a session actually covers.

TikTok Sessions Per Day Per User Against Rival Apps

TikTok posted the highest average daily time per user of any top social app in the August 2025 Android ranking, at 1 hour 37 minutes. Instagram followed at 1 hour 13 minutes, Facebook at 67 minutes and WhatsApp at 59 minutes.

DataReportal places TikTok’s figure roughly 14 percent above YouTube’s without publishing YouTube’s minute count, so YouTube is left out of the chart below.

Per-user intensity is not the same as platform scale. On Similarweb’s total-time index, where the leading app scores 100, YouTube takes 100 and TikTok 55.1, meaning YouTube absorbed close to twice as much total Android time as TikTok in the same month.

TikTok Session Frequency Among US Teens

Pew Research Center measures self-reported frequency rather than clock time, which gets closer to session counts than any minutes figure. Its survey covered 1,458 US teens ages 13 to 17 and ran from 25 September to 9 October 2025.

TikTok took the highest almost-constant share of the five platforms asked about, at 21 percent of all teens. YouTube followed at 17 percent, Instagram and Snapchat at 12 percent each, Facebook at 3 percent.

Reach runs the other way. YouTube was used by 92 percent of teens against 68 percent for TikTok, so TikTok converts a smaller teen audience into denser use, a pattern that also shows up in TikTok age demographics by content type.

How Often Do Teen TikTok Users Open TikTok?

Narrowing to the 996 teens who use TikTok changes the picture sharply. Almost a third, 31 percent, called their use almost constant, and 51 percent said several times a day.

Only 10 percent reported about once a day, and 3 percent said less often. That distribution is the closest published read on teen session frequency, and it explains why TikTok engagement rates by follower count hold up across repeat exposure.

Has Teen TikTok Session Frequency Shifted Since 2022?

The almost-constant share among teen TikTok users sat at 25 percent in the April to May 2022 wave and reached 31 percent in the September to October 2025 wave. Measured across all teens rather than TikTok users alone, Pew records the same move as 16 percent in 2022 rising to 21 percent in 2025.

The several-times-a-day share moved less, from 48 percent to 51 percent, peaking at 55 percent in 2024.

Why TikTok Sessions Per Day Per User Matters for Planning

Ten opens a day caps how many separate moments a creator or advertiser gets with one person. Frequency capping and feed competition cut into that ceiling before a campaign reaches it, which is where TikTok marketing benchmarks and push notification click rates start to matter.

For context on total phone use, Sensor Tower’s State of Mobile 2026 put global app time at 5.3 trillion hours across iOS and Google Play in 2025, up 3.8 percent year over year, or roughly 3.6 hours a day per mobile user.

Ninety-seven minutes of that daily average sitting inside one app also carries a bandwidth cost, covered separately in our TikTok data usage breakdown. Repeat sessions also give saved content a second life, tracked in save rate benchmarks.
