TikTok account inactivity statistics showing ad reach, usage gaps, account removals, and country-level differences.

TikTok Account Inactivity Rate Statistics 2026

TikTok does not publish an account inactivity rate, globally or by country. It publishes quarterly removal counts, an advertising reach figure and a written rule for when an account counts as inactive: an account not used to access TikTok for at least 180 days can have its username reset to a random number (Source: TikTok Support). Everything else about dormancy has to be inferred by setting those company figures against third-party usage data, which is what the tables below do.

Key TikTok account inactivity rate statistics for 2026

TikTok’s potential ad reach passed 2 billion users aged 18 and over by April 2026, up more than 8% in three months (Source: DataReportal).

Over roughly the same stretch, Similarweb recorded TikTok mobile app usage falling about 10% between September 2025 and February 2026 (Source: DataReportal).

TikTok removed 425.7 million fake accounts and 97.8 million suspected under-13 accounts across the four quarters from Q2 2025 to Q1 2026 (Source: HapaKenya, Lanka Business Online, Brandsynario, Brandsynario).

TikTok’s ad reach equalled 154.3% of adults in Saudi Arabia and 134.6% in the UAE at the end of 2025 (Source: DataReportal).

In the U.S., 37% of adults say they use TikTok and 24% say they use it daily (Source: Pew Research Center).

Ad reach counts accounts that TikTok’s ad tools can target. It does not check whether those accounts belong to distinct people or whether anyone opened them recently. When one number climbs 8% in a quarter while measured app usage drops 10% over six months, the difference is made up of accounts that still count for targeting but are used less or not at all. DataReportal also notes that self-reported TikTok use in GWI’s latest survey wave went down, not up. Neither figure can be converted into an exact inactivity percentage, but they point in opposite directions at the same time, and dormant or duplicate accounts are the simplest explanation. Headline audience figures are tracked separately in this how many users does TikTok have breakdown.

These removals are the one account-level clean-up TikTok discloses, and they are large. The 523.5 million accounts removed across four quarters equal about a quarter of the 2 billion ad reach figure, although the two numbers measure different things and cannot be subtracted from each other. Fake accounts made up 81.3% of the combined total. Quarterly volume is also uneven: fake account removals rose 54.1% from Q2 to Q3 2025 and a further 21.3% into Q4, peaking at 143.8 million, then fell 40.0% in Q1 2026. Underage removals barely moved, staying between 22.2 million and 25.9 million every quarter. The swings on the fake-account side follow waves of automated sign-ups, which means the pool of never-used accounts is refilled in bursts rather than at a steady rate.

A reach figure above 100% cannot describe people, so it has to describe extra accounts. Saudi Arabia’s 38.6 million reach against roughly 25.0 million adults implies at least 13.6 million accounts beyond one per adult. In the UAE, 12.5 million reach against about 9.3 million adults leaves at least 3.2 million surplus accounts. DataReportal lists multiple accounts per person and eSIM-based second connections as likely causes. Secondary accounts are the ones most likely to go quiet, so these two markets combine very high engagement with a sizeable pool of rarely used profiles. The gap is widening: Statista’s April 2026 reading puts TikTok at 164% of Saudi adults and 142.7% of UAE adults (Source: Statista). Country totals for other markets are listed in these TikTok users by country figures.

About 92 million daily users out of the 170 million TikTok cites means 54.1% of the U.S. base opens the app on a typical day and 45.9% does not. Pew’s survey gives a similar split from the user side: 24% of adults use it daily out of the 37% who use it at all, so 35.1% of adult users skip at least some days. Accounts outnumber people here too. DataReportal’s ad reach equals 55.7% of U.S. adults against the 37% who report using TikTok, which leaves about a third of the targetable adult audience unaccounted for by self-reported use. The January 2026 uninstall spike did not translate into a lasting drop: Sensor Tower said overall active user levels stayed largely flat that week, and Similarweb had daily users back above 90 million by early February. Deleting the app does not delete the account, so each of those uninstalls leaves a dormant profile in the account count.

India is the largest block of inactive accounts TikTok has. After a brief website reappearance in August 2025, an IT Ministry official told TechCrunch the government had not unblocked the app, and TikTok said it had not restored access. Every Indian account created before 2020 has now been unused for more than six years, far past TikTok’s 180-day inactivity threshold. Albania shows a shorter version of the same thing: an 11-month national block, during which users could reach the app only through VPNs. The U.S. shutdown lasted about 12 hours but was the largest by number of affected accounts, over 170 million. A running list of restrictions is kept in this how many countries banned TikTok tracker, and the posting-versus-watching split behind U.S. lurker figures is covered in the TikTok creator vs consumer ratio data.
